Grief & Loss

There’s no right way to mourn

Grief doesn’t follow a script. It can hit all at once or unfold slowly over time. Some days you may feel numb or detached; other days, overwhelmed by waves of sadness, anger, or even guilt. Whether you’ve lost a loved one, gone through a breakup, experienced a major life shift, or are navigating ambiguous or anticipatory grief, it’s valid—and you don’t have to go through it alone.

We offer grief therapy for adults in New York, New Jersey, and Florida, creating space to move through loss at your own pace, in your own way. This isn’t about “getting over it”—it’s about honoring your experience and finding ways to carry it.

What Does Grief Feel Like?

Grief is deeply personal. It doesn’t always look like tears or mourning. It might show up as:

  • Emotional numbness or feeling disconnected from others

  • Intense sadness, anger, or regret

  • Changes in sleep, appetite, or energy

  • Difficulty concentrating or functioning

  • Anxiety, irritability, or guilt about “moving on”

  • A sense of meaninglessness or identity confusion after loss

Whether your loss was recent or happened years ago, therapy can help you make sense of what you’re feeling and begin to integrate it into your life.

Small Ways to Care for Yourself Through Grief

Grief is heavy—and sometimes even the basics feel like too much. Here are a few gentle ways to care for yourself right now:

Let yourself feel whatever comes up. There’s no “wrong” emotion in grief

Talk to someone you trust. Sharing your experience can make it feel more real and less isolating

Don’t force a timeline. Healing is not linear; it’s okay to take your time

Create small rituals. Light a candle, write a letter, take a walk in a meaningful place

Focus on small acts of care. Drinking water, stepping outside, or resting can be powerful

These steps won’t take away the pain, but they can offer grounding during moments that feel unsteady.

Our Approach to Grief Therapy

Grief is not something to be fixed. It’s something to be witnessed, honored, and held with compassion. In our work together, we’ll make space for whatever your grief looks like—whether that’s sorrow, confusion, anger, or all of the above. Our approach draws from:

Relational and trauma-informed therapy to explore the personal and emotional weight of your loss

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and REBT to support you in making meaning and addressing any harsh self-judgments or “shoulds”

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) for emotional regulation and distress tolerance

Mindfulness and grounding techniques to help you stay connected to your body in the midst of strong emotions

Strengths-based work to gently support your capacity to carry grief alongside life

Grief can feel like it reorders everything—and therapy offers a space to figure out who you are and what you need in the midst of that.
