CBT and REBT

Therapy with tools to help you move forward

Sometimes insight isn’t enough—you want change. You want tools, direction, and support that help you better understand yourself and take practical steps toward feeling better. That’s where CBT and REBT come in. These are goal-oriented, evidence-based approaches that focus on how your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors are connected—and how small shifts in one area can lead to meaningful change.

We use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) to help adults in New York, New Jersey, and Florida move through anxiety, depression, perfectionism, and emotional overwhelm with more clarity and intention. These approaches focus on how your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors are connected—and how small shifts in one area can lead to meaningful change.

What Is CBT?

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is a structured, goal-oriented approach that helps you identify unhelpful thought patterns and behaviors—and replace them with ones that are more aligned with how you actually want to feel and function. It’s not just about “positive thinking”—it’s about becoming more aware of your internal dialogue and developing a more balanced, realistic perspective. CBT is particularly helpful for:

  • Anxiety and worry spirals

  • Depression and low motivation

  • Perfectionism and self-criticism

  • Avoidance and procrastination

  • Relationship stress and communication challenges

It gives you tools to notice what’s happening in the moment—and make choices that move you forward.

What Is REBT?

Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy focuses on identifying irrational beliefs that are fueling distress. It’s based on the idea that it’s not just what happens that causes us emotional pain—but how we interpret and respond to it. REBT helps you:

  • Challenge harsh self-judgments and perfectionistic “shoulds”

  • Learn to accept uncomfortable feelings without being ruled by them

  • Replace rigid thinking with more flexible, self-compassionate beliefs

  • Separate your worth from your mistakes, productivity, or other people’s opinions

It’s a highly empowering approach—focused on giving you more freedom in how you think, feel, and respond.

What Sessions Look Like

If you’re looking for a therapy style that’s collaborative, active, and focused on growth, CBT and REBT might be a great fit. Sessions may include:

  • Identifying the beliefs and thought patterns that are keeping you stuck

  • Practicing real-time tools to manage anxiety, frustration, or self-doubt

  • Developing more flexible ways of thinking that support your goals

  • Exploring what matters most to you—and what’s getting in the way

  • Creating small, achievable action steps between sessions

You don’t need to have it all figured out. You just need to be open to exploring new possibilities—and willing to practice.
